The 2025 renovation of the Talent, Oregon Skatepar

The 2025 renovation of the Talent, Oregon Skatepark marked Grindline’s first full “pour-over,” placing an average of four inches of new concrete over the park built nearly 30 years earlier.

The project was led by longtime Grindline foreman Mike Swim, whose professional skatepark-building career began at Talent. Mike and the crew carefully reworked the original geometry, redesigned the hip in the kidney bowl, improved existing features, and added new terrain while preserving the park’s layout.

A pour-over like this requires effective drainage and a suitable subgrade, so it is not feasible at every park. When conditions allow, it can extend a facility’s service life and provide a great alternative to complete demolition and replacement.

A look back at the Chehalis Tribe Skatepark, a spa

A look back at the Chehalis Tribe Skatepark, a space designed to honor and connect with the past, while inspiring future generations through skateboarding. Created in close collaboration with the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation, the park reflects the community's culture, history, and identity in numerous details and features.

Among them, flowing lines reference the Chehalis River basin with stained concrete representing the watershed, and red and black tile in the pool honors Tribal colors. A traditional basket motif is integrated directly into the riding surface, while laser-cut fence panels featuring Lushootseed words celebrate the Tribe's connection to its native language. One of those words, småtatn, translates to "grind." We also collaborated with artist Jay Meer @jaymeericle to incorporate the Tribe's super rad emblem.

In every community we work with, we look for opportunities to reflect local culture and identity through design. This project stands out as one of the most meaningful examples of that approach, and it remains a source of pride for everyone at Grindline.
