THE TURF SKATEPARK

14,890 Sqft

Originally opened in 1979 in Greenfield, Wisconsin, The Turf Skatepark, also known as “Surfin’ Turf”, became one of the most influential skateparks in Midwest skateboarding history. At a time when concrete skateparks were still rare, its five distinctive bowls helped push skatepark design forward and established the park as a legendary destination for generations of skaters.

After multiple closures and decades buried beneath the site, a grassroots movement to “Save The Turf” emerged when remnants of the original bowls were rediscovered in 2010. In 2019, the City of Greenfield acquired the property and partnered with Grindline Skateparks and the Turf Skatepark Association to restore the historic park for public use.

Guided by community input and a deep respect for the original design, Grindline reconstructed the five signature bowls to their original scale while expanding the facility with a modern street course and outdoor combi-style bowl. The project also carried personal significance for Grindline, whose founders Rob Owen and Mark “Monk” Hubbard both had longstanding connections to the original park and its influence on skateboarding culture.

Celebrated with a grand opening on June 7, 2025, the reborn Turf Skatepark stands as both a tribute to skateboarding history and a world-class modern facility, demonstrating Grindline’s ability to preserve cultural legacy while building durable, progression-focused terrain for future generations.
